A note from the author: Having grown up reading the Little House on the Prairie books and falling in love with Benny and the crew while reading The Boxcar Children books, I wanted to return to those memories of my childhood and write an adult version of the feel-good stories that got me hooked on reading. This story for the young at heart brings together dogs, children, a hint of romance, and even a few feathered friends to pull at the heartstrings and help recapture that love of reading in a clean drama sprinkled with humor.

                                                                                                                  Endurance

Cast out into the streets at an early age, Dorthia is now one of the tens of thousands of children dependent on their wits to find shelter and food in New York City in the early 1900s.  Through sheer determination and a will to survive, Dorthia quickly learns what it takes for a young girl to survive living on the streets.
However, life takes an unexpected turn when Dorthia finds herself in a children’s asylum. It seems like a stroke of luck when she learns that she's among the chosen few to ride the trains to find a new home. Little does she know that the life that awaits her is just as harsh and unforgiving as the city streets she left behind.
Dorthia’s endurance is tested once again when she finds her right to even breathe challenged as Mother Nature sends out clouds of dust that destroy everything in their wake and threaten her new life in Oklahoma.
From multi-award-winning author Sherry A. Burton comes a standalone book within the Orphan Train Saga that will take you from the streets of New York City, out on the Orphan Trains, and into America’s heartland, where you’ll be swept up in the Dust Bowl and the challenges it presented during one of the worst ecological disasters in American history.
