It is hard to believe how crazy my life has become in the short time since my book was released. Wow, was that just last week. I knew things would change and that I would need to work at getting my name out there, but I have found that sometimes, there are just not enough hours in the day. Not that I am complaining, mind you. It is more that I am trying to strike a balance in my life, so that I can do everything that is now required of me.
I find myself spending a lot of time on the phone. I call bookstores to see what it will take to get my book displayed on their shelves. I find that I am endlessly writing and replying to e-mails from the same people. I am also sending books out to both people that have purchased autograph copies, as well as bookstores who are wishing to view a copy.
I am also working to get into book fairs, so that means more e-mails, as well as sending out forms and books for them to review. While the phone conversations, e-mails and mailings take time they are paying off as I now have my book in both locations of Carmichaels Books in Louisville and Morris Books in Lexington Kentucky. I have also received my letter of acceptance in the mail for Kentucky’s largest book fair, to be held in Bowling Green, Kentucky in April 2012. Last year the event boasted over 5000 people. Not bad exposure for a first time author.
This week I gave my first interview. It was very exciting! I will post a separate blog under this one with the entire interview. I hope you have as much fun reading it as I had answering the questions.
I also attended my first book signing. It was a writer’s block party in Virginia Beach showcasing local authors and poets. While it turned out to be a smaller crowd than expected I did sell some books, and I have read that even if you only sell one book you should consider it a successful book signing. I sold more than one book so I consider it a success.
I have another book signing scheduled for Saturday October the 8th Saturday 10:00am until 5pm (unless I sell out before then.) @ 3828 Virginia Beach Blvd. Virginia Beach 23452 It is at a craft show and they are expecting mild weather and a heavy turnout so I hope to see some familiar faces and meet lots of new people!
Of course I have been doing a bit of writing when I get the chance. I currently have three books vying for attention. One is a book I have been working on for several years now. It is a drama, and it sometimes comes to the forefront, but then settles back down again. I would love for it to want to be finished next, but only time will tell.
The most daunting task over this past week has been trying to figure out the new facebook. I am so afraid I am missing something or have unintentionally not answered someone. If I have please e-mail me I will get back to you as soon as possible.
So to recap…I maintain two facebook accounts plus two facebook pages. I have five active e-mail accounts, a weekly blog and twitter. I answer fan e-mails (yes, much to my delight, I have been getting those!), regular e-mails, market the book, field phone calls and try to exercise on a daily basis. On top of that I do what I can to spend quality time with my hubby and watch Baby E. from 7am to nearly 5pm most week days. Thankfully, he still takes nice naps which is when I do phone calls and e-mails. And, I write when the mood hits me.
I think I may need to have to have myself cloned… but wait could that be the subject matter of the next book, Somewhere in My Dreams? Seriously, how does that husband keep his promise to return after he dies and where does the handsome butcher fit into things?…Find out in the early spring of 2012!
As I said it has been a whirlwind, but it has also been one of the best weeks of my life! I have waited a very long time for this. I give thanks for my many blessings!
