I saw Elvis yesterday. Well I didn’t actually see him, like in person, I mean that would be crazy as he is dead, at least that is what they say. No I saw him on television in one of his old movies. It was great seeing him in that young, sexy version of himself. I like that version better than the older, bloated version; I guess most people feel that way. Seeing him got me to thinking about the different versions of us during our lives. I am sure most of us have a version of ourselves that we like better than another. Think about it. If you were watching a re-run of your life would you be happier with the young childish version, the mischievous teenage version, the shy first time in love version, the older more knowledgeable version, or any number of versions that would play out on the screen in front of you? When you think back, were you happy with that version of you at the time, or is it only now when you are reminiscing that you can see the person that you know you were? So many people are not happy with themselves in the present yet this present self is who they are living with. Are you always looking for that lost memory, hoping to lose that last ten pounds, wanting to start the next diet, waiting to see what tomorrow will bring? It is easy to waste today when you keep wishing for tomorrow. I think we get caught up with what people expect from us and forget what we expect from ourselves and in doing so fail to live life to the fullest. I guess if we were all happy with the us we are at present there would not be any need for self help books, diet pills, gyms, running shoes, lottery tickets, Viagra and the numerous other things that help to make us the person we want to be. Whole industries would go out of business. I wonder, if Elvis had it to do all over again would he be happy with the blue suede shoes or would he would keep wishing on that flaming star. I don’t know the answer, but if I see him I will be sure to ask.
